Is it too hot to travel Morocco in the summer?
Morocco does get hot during the summer months but not too hot to stand .At summer time, Casablanca being a coastal city, would get hot with high humidity. On the other hand, Marrakesh will be in the high nineties Fahrenheit, or about 32 to 35 degrees Celsius; the heat is dry and can be enjoyable.
Is Morocco safe?
Compared to the US and Europe, Morocco is considered to be a very safe destination. It has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Moroccan people are known for being hospitable and friendly.
What languages are spoken in Morocco?
The main spoken language is Moroccan Arabic, it is an Arabic dialect with a mix of Arabic, and French and Spanish .The official written language is Arabic. There are also three Berber languages: Tarifit, Tamazight, and Tashelhit. The French is very widely spoken throughout the country and often used to conduct business. English is also spoken amongst the tourism community and the more educated population.
What if I don't speak Arabic or French?
An English speaking tour guide will facilitate all communications and with any other constituencies, and also provide explanations of the various visited sites.
What’s the dress code for women visiting Morocco?
There is no specific dress code. In Morocco some women dress in traditional attire while others dress more liberally. However to enter the mosques, women need to dress more conservatively as you would to enter a church here ie no shorts, tank tops, etc. and also scarf to cover the hair would be recommended to show respect. Generally, use judgment with your attire if you want to avoid unwanted attention.
What are Riads?Can I select a Riad for my trip?
Riads are sort of guest houses or bed and breakfasts. They are much smaller than a regular hotel and therefore an early booking is strongly recommended.
Can I local electrical outlets to plug my hair dryer or electric razor?
You will need a converter and adapter if you wish to use electric equipment purchased in the United States.
(Standard outlets are 220V, 50HZ though110V may be found in older constructions.)
Do I need travel insurance, and if so, what should it cover?
Travel insurance is not required, it is recommended to get a standard travel insurance policy. Look for a comprehensive travel protection program that covers you for unexpected events that could cause you to cancel or interrupt your vacation, medical assistance or loss of or damage to baggage.
Where can I exchange US dollars?
You can exchange your US dollars or other currencies at any bank in Morocco or even at hotel lobbies of most the hotels you'll stay in.
Can I use traveler's cheques?
It is best to use credit cards as they are widely preferred over traveler's cheques. You can also withdraw cash from any ATM in all major cities.
